Cho'Gath has no item ceiling — every feast adds permanent health that no item can take away, making him the rare champion who literally gets bigger and harder to kill as the game goes on.

Overview

Cho'Gath is one of the most unique scaling champions in League of Legends, built around a passive that lets him grow permanently larger and more durable with every Feast stack he earns. Unlike other tanks who rely entirely on items for their health pool, Cho'Gath's health grows independently of gold through kills, objective smites, and minion Feasts, meaning a well-played Cho'Gath reaches health totals that no item build alone could achieve. His crowd control kit is strong — Rupture knocks up and slows, Feral Scream silences in a cone — and Feast executes targets below a health threshold dealing true damage, bypassing all resistances. He is not a mobile champion and can be kited, but his raw durability, objective control through Feast, and reliable crowd control make him one of the safest and most impactful tanks when played patiently.

Strengths

  • Feast stacks provide permanent health that compounds with items, making Cho'Gath reach health totals in the late game that virtually no burst damage can eliminate in a single fight
  • Rupture knockup and Feral Scream silence together create a two-ability crowd control chain that completely locks down a target for multiple seconds with no skillshot dodging possible on the knockup
  • Feast's true damage execution bypasses all armor and magic resistance, making it equally effective against tanks, bruisers, and squishy targets regardless of their defensive itemization
  • Objective control through Feast smiting Dragon and Baron provides massive health bonuses that effectively give his team free stats without spending item gold
  • Very strong sustain through passive healing after kills, making him one of the safest laners in the game against poke-heavy matchups when played conservatively

Weaknesses

  • Extremely immobile with no dashes or movement tools — kiting champions who can maintain distance and deal sustained damage can whittle Cho'Gath down without ever letting him use his abilities effectively
  • Rupture has a visible telegraph and a delay before it activates — alert enemies can step away from the knock-up zone in time, removing his primary crowd control for several seconds
  • Feast requires being within melee range of the target — against mobile carries or enemies with escapes, getting into execute range without being kited away is often the biggest challenge
  • Falls behind significantly if unable to Feast consistently in the early game — missing feast opportunities on minions or dying before feasting on objectives delays his health scaling considerably
  • Provides less peel than most tank supports — his kit is entirely offensive, meaning when his team's carry is being dived he has limited tools to protect them beyond body blocking

Early Game

Cho'Gath's early game revolves around one priority above all others: landing Rupture on as many targets as possible to stack Feast charges on minions before level six. Every Feast kill on a minion adds permanent health, so the habit of landing Rupture on minion groups and immediately Feasting the lowest health minion should begin from the first wave. In lane trades, use Rupture to knock up the enemy laner, then immediately Feral Scream to silence them during the knockup, then auto attack and Vorpal Spikes for maximum damage while they cannot retaliate. This two-ability combo is your core trading pattern and deals significant damage while the silence prevents them from using defensive abilities. Play conservatively in ranged matchups — your passive heals you after kills, but against champions who can poke safely from outside Rupture range you should focus on farming rather than trading until you have a clear opportunity.

Mid Game

Mid game is where Cho'Gath's accumulated Feast stacks begin showing their impact — his health total is noticeably higher than most champions at equal levels, making him significantly harder to burst down in skirmishes. The priority in this phase is to participate in every Dragon and Rift Herald fight, because Feast on the objective provides a massive health bonus that accelerates his scaling beyond what minion feasts alone can achieve. Before objective fights, position yourself to Rupture the most dangerous enemy champion approaching the objective, then follow with Feral Scream to extend the crowd control. In teamfights, your role is to absorb damage, disrupt the enemy's approach with Rupture, and save Feast for either an execute on a priority target or the objective itself. Between fights, continue farming minions and looking for Feast opportunities on low-health targets in side waves.

Late Game

Late game is Cho'Gath's strongest phase — with maximum or near-maximum Feast stacks and full items, his health pool is genuinely one of the highest achievable in the game and most burst damage compositions simply cannot kill him in a single fight. In five-on-five teamfights, his role is to be the frontline that absorbs the enemy team's burst, disrupts their formation with Rupture and Feral Scream, and then executes the highest priority target with Feast when they drop below the threshold. The most important late game decision is when to use Feast — saving it for the enemy ADC or mid laner who is at low health and trying to escape is almost always more valuable than using it on a tank or engage support who will survive longer regardless. Baron Nashor is also a Feast target, providing a massive health bonus that makes him even more unkillable in the final fights. In siege situations, Cho'Gath's crowd control makes him excellent at protecting his team's siege line and threatening defenders who step forward.

Tips & Tricks

  • Feast minions consistently from level six onward — every missed Feast opportunity on a minion is permanent health you never get back. Develop the habit of checking nearby minion health bars and Feasting any that are below the threshold before last hitting them normally.
  • Rupture has a delay — aim it at the location the enemy will be standing in one second rather than where they are now. Against stationary enemies aim directly at them; against moving enemies, lead the cast slightly in their direction of movement.
  • Feral Scream silences in a wide cone — use it immediately after Rupture knocks an enemy up so the silence activates before they land and prevents them from using defensive or escape abilities during the knockup window.
  • Feast on Dragon and Baron whenever possible — the health bonuses from objective Feasts are significantly larger than minion Feasts and directly accelerate your health scaling beyond what farming alone provides.
  • Save Feast for execute opportunities on priority targets rather than using it as your opener — a Feast that executes the enemy ADC at twenty percent health is worth far more than a Feast used at the start of a fight that only deals normal damage to a full-health tank.
